Fire Safety Compliance FAQ's

FAQ's
A fire risk assessment is a systematic review of your entire premises, fire safety systems and fire safety arrangements against the legal requirements of the governing fire safety legislation in your area. Our fire risk assessments will identify fire hazards in your premises and those who may be affected, their severity is evaluated and any existing effective control measures are considered as mitigating factors where possible/appropriate to the conditions. As part of the process, we also assess your fire safety management systems and all fire safety arrangements in place for the premises. Following the site inspection, a comprehensive fire risk assessment report and action plan will be provided in an easy to understand format, detailing the requirements to remedy all identified shortfalls.
Fire safety legislation in the UK requires that all commercial (with very limited exceptions) and qualifying domestic premises have a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment in place at all times, which must be subject to suitable review. If you are in any doubt if your current fire risk assessment is valid, if you simply need a review or if you don't have one in place at all, please get in touch!
Fire Smart Assessments Ltd can provide fire risk assessments and fire safety consultancy in all premises types, of any risk profile and complexity. For example; Schools, Colleges, Universities, Residential Care Homes, Shops, Offices, Blocks of Residential Flats, Student Accommodation, Supported/Assisted Living Schemes, Factories, Warehouses, Power Plants, Chemical Plants, Transport Premises, Sports Facilities, Sports Grounds, Sports Stadium Sites, Swimming Pools, Community Centres, Bars, Restaurants, Night Clubs, Gyms, Healthcare Premises, Veterinary Premises, Museums, Historical Premises, Food Manufacturing Sites... We provide tailored coverage to suit your building, whatever it may be!
Legislation generally does not specify a timescale for review, however, your fire risk assessment must remain suitable and sufficient for your premises at all times. The complexity and operations ongoing in your premises will determine the frequency of advised review. For example, a residential care home with complex needs residents would generally be advised for review annually, whereas a small low-risk estate agent premises may be advised for review every 3 years. This will always be based on the significant findings of your fire risk assessment to ensure the safety of occupants and the protection of your business. As best practice, it is wise to consider annual reviews of your fire risk assessment to ensure any premises or management changes are identified appropriately mitigated. In doing this, you also ensure any recent legislative/regulatory changes are applied to your premises and fire safety arrangements.
Fire safety legislation requires that only competent persons carry out fire risk assessments, who are persons with adequate training/qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills in the assessment of your specific premises type. A fire risk assessment should never be a 'tick box exercise', they should be presented in a professional format capturing all significant findings with sufficient commentary for each section, with the finished product being a legal document. Where competency is in any doubt, don't put yourself, your premises and it's occupants at risk. Contact us and we will ensure that you achieve compliance.
It doesn't have to be! We tailor each of our clients a no obligation, competitive quotation for their exact requirements. It is vital to remember that the cost of a fire risk assessment (or general fire safety consultancy) will ALWAYS be lower than the cost of potential enforcement action/prosecution, loss of business reputation, loss of clients/contracts and even the serious injury or death of building occupants resulting from non-compliance. As they say, it is better to be safe than sorry!
This depends entirely on the scope and complexity of your premises. Typically, a fire risk assessment site inspection can take anywhere from a couple of hours on the most simple sites, up to multiple days on complex multi-building sites. We aim to inspect your site and provide you with the fire risk assessment report within reasonable timeframes. Typically this is within 5 working days, but can be slightly longer for large multi-building sites. This will always be discussed with you prior to commencement to ensure your satisfaction.
